Top 5 Favorite Sci-fi/Fantasy Books

It’s Wednesday, and you know what that means, another Top 5 Wednesday!

For those of you unfamiliar with Top 5 Wednesday it is a weekly blog/vlog prompt that was started by Lainey over at Gingerreadslainey, and is currently run by Samantha at ThoughtsonTomes. If you want to check out the prompts for yourself you can head over to their Goodreads page by clicking HERE.

This week’s topic is Top 5 Science Fiction/Fantasy reads, and I want to start off my saying that as someone who doesn’t typically read science fiction, the majority of these are going to be fantasy, so let’s dive right on in!

thelightningthief1. Percy Jackson and the Olympians by Rick Riordan.

Yep, so Rick Riordan has made it on to yet another top 5 Wednesday lists, but I honestly can’t help it. Rick Riordan has been one of my favorite authors for almost 12 years now, but Percy Jackson will always hold a special place in my heart. I picked up the first book when I was in 6th grade, and have been a fan ever since.

2. The Hobbit by J.R.R. Tolkien

Another fantasy book that I have a long history with and that I find myself referencing time and time again. I was in 5th grade when I first discovered the book in my school’s library and I often attribute The Hobbit to igniting my love of Fantasy in the first place.

Dorothy Must Die3. Dorothy Must Die by Danielle Paige

This one is a new love of mine, being released in 2014, however much like Rick Riordan, I was hooked the first time I read this. While I know that there was some major controversy surrounding both this book and it’s author I can’t help but fall in love every time I read it!

4. The Dark is Rising by Susan Cooper

So this is a bit more obscure of a series, but one that I discovered around the same time that I discovered The Hobbit. Now, I actually realized too late that this is actually the second book in the series, but it didn’t hinder the enjoyment of this book. Now I have read the entire series and can still say it is one of my favorites of all time.

Eve the awakening5. Eve: The Awakening by Jenna Moreci.

The only Science Fiction novel to make it onto this list, and also the only indie novel on this list (at the moment anyway). Eve was the debut novel for author and YouTuber Jenna Moreci and I was so lucky to be picked to be one of her arc reviewers for this amazing novel. The book was so good I ended purchasing a physical copy of this books and look forward to reading more by her in the future. If you want to check out my full review of Eve: The Awakening, you can check it out by clicking HERE.

There you have it, five of my all-time favorite Science Fiction/Fantasy stories. A lot of these were probably pretty obvious, but I never miss a chance to get the word about these stories out there for more people to discover. As always feel free to leave a comment below and let me know what some of your favorite Science Fiction and Fantasy stories are. I am always looking for another good book to read.

And until next time, see you then.
